The Perfect Kickoff: Three Days of Intensive Rehearsals
Our adventure began in the U.S. with a three-day orientation and rehearsal session held at a local college. This high school summer music camp was invaluable, as it gave us a chance to connect with students from over 50 schools across the region. Not only were we tuning our instruments and perfecting our pieces, but we also dove into workshops on European art and architecture, setting the stage for a meaningful cultural immersion through music. The energy in the rehearsal hall was electric as we prepared for this unique student music performance opportunity to play as a concert band, jazz band, choir, and orchestra.
Our Journey Begins: Five Countries, Endless Memories
With our rehearsals complete, we were ready to embark on the international music performance tour that would take us through five countries, each with its own charm and culture. Every aspect of this high school musicians’ tour was planned to give us the perfect blend of musical, cultural, and educational experiences. We performed in beautiful European cathedrals and renowned concert halls, where each concert felt like a bridge between us and our audiences, bringing us together through the universal language of music.
When I first signed up for the American Music Abroad tour, I had no idea just how incredible this student music tour of Europe would be. I thought it would just be a great way to spend my summer with other high school musicians, but it ended up being so much more. Over the course of our 15-day journey, I not only grew as a musician but also had a life-changing cultural music experience that I’ll never forget.
During the days, we explored iconic sights and participated in cultural activities, from exploring medieval castles to standing in solemn reflection at WWII concentration camps. These excursions were thoughtfully crafted to deepen our understanding of each place we visited, reminding us that music and history are woven together in powerful ways. This experience wasn’t just about playing music abroad—it was about connecting with history, people, and the culture surrounding us.
A Unique Social and Musical Setting
This high school summer music tour wasn’t just about seeing new places; it was about creating lifelong memories with friends who shared the same passion. American Music Abroad truly emphasizes the “social” aspect of this journey, making it the perfect summer music tour for teens. Every evening was filled with planned group activities, from group dinners to exploring city squares and enjoying local entertainment. With all logistics, including flights, hotels, motor coach travel, meals, and entrance fees, taken care of, we could fully enjoy the tour.
