Germany

The Romance of Tradition

Austria

The City of Music and the Spirit of the Alps

In Austria, the world of music comes alive. Vienna, long known as the “City of Music,” stands at the center of European artistry. Here, participants experience the grandeur of the Habsburg palaces and the creative energy of a city shaped by Mozart, Beethoven, and Strauss.

Nearby Salzburg, with its baroque charm and alpine backdrop, adds another layer of inspiration. Known as the birthplace of Mozart and the setting of The Sound of Music, Salzburg reflects Austria’s enduring passion for performance.

Beyond the concert halls, the Austrian Alps bring moments of reflection and connection. AMA ensembles visit traditional mountain villages, experience the warmth of local hospitality, and take part in authentic cultural celebrations. Every encounter deepens the bond between music and place, a connection that defines the AMA experience.

Switzerland

Harmony in the Heart of Nature

Few places combine serenity and grandeur like Switzerland. Nestled between lakes and mountains, cities such as Lucerne and Engelberg provide breathtaking settings for both performance and exploration. The crystal waters, alpine meadows, and timeless architecture create a perfect backdrop for musicians to find both inspiration and peace.

In these moments (standing before the Chapel Bridge, performing in a mountain village, or gazing across snow-capped peaks), participants experience the harmony of nature and music that only Switzerland can offer.

Switzerland also reflects AMA’s dedication to cultural understanding. Whether visiting artisan shops, hearing local folk music, or connecting with audiences at community performances, participants experience a side of Europe that is personal, authentic, and deeply rewarding.

France

The Soul of Europe

The tour concludes in France, where art, architecture, and culture converge. The city of Strasbourg captures the spirit of both France and Europe itself, a place where French and German influences blend seamlessly. Its half-timbered houses, canals, and magnificent Gothic cathedral provide a stunning finale for the Blue Tour.

Performing here is a meaningful celebration of what AMA stands for: unity through music. The shared experience of performing in one of Europe’s most beautiful regions leaves every participant with a lasting sense of pride and accomplishment.

For many musicians, the Strasbourg concert is a culmination of growth, discovery, and connection that defines their entire AMA journey.

1. Who can participate in the American Music Abroad Blue Tour?
The Blue Tour is open to high school, collegiate, and adult musicians in band, choir, or orchestra. Participants come from across the United States and Canada, joining together to form a single touring ensemble that performs in historic venues across Europe.
American Music Abroad focuses on performance, education, and cultural exchange, not sightseeing alone. Each tour features meaningful concerts, guided experiences, and visits to iconic landmarks such as cathedrals, castles, and memorials.
Students are nominated by their music teachers based on musical commitment and character. AMA values dedication, teamwork, and enthusiasm over competition, creating a supportive environment where musicians of all levels can grow and perform confidently together.
The Blue Tour is a life-changing artistic experience. Participants perform in breathtaking venues, build lifelong friendships, and gain a deeper appreciation for music and culture. Parents consistently describe it as one of the most rewarding investments in their child’s personal and artistic development.
Safety is AMA’s top priority. Each ensemble travels with a full-time, experienced tour manager who oversees all logistics, accommodations, and transportation. Participants are always accompanied by directors and chaperones, and all hotels, venues, and destinations are carefully vetted to meet AMA’s high standards of comfort and security.
Yes. Friends & Family Tours are available for parents, relatives, and friends who wish to travel alongside the performing ensemble. These tours follow a parallel schedule, allowing family members to attend concerts and share select sightseeing experiences while enjoying their own independent travel program.
